i've redlined my xA every day for 70Xthousand miles and never had a water pump (or any other) failure. stock pullies. redlining has nothing to do with it.

72k miles, redline a lot, aftermarket pulleys.

I'm just saying don't be so quick to blame the pulley. There COULD be other factors.

He also has been using an aftermarket pulley since 150k.

The denial comes from ignoring the blatant admission of redlining the car everyday. Redlining DAILY will definitely do some damage under the hood. If your car was designed to cruise at 6/7/8 RPMs, then there wouldn't be a red line, period. I'm sure you've been doing some serious damage to your engine, especially considering that you most likely have stock (economic) internals. I don't see how anyone can argue in favor of redlining and against an aluminum pulley that is only 10% less than the stock pulley in circumference!
