I'm totally an idiot when it comes to these things...
Could you obtain the ECM part number by any chance? And is it something a dealer will only do or can i have tuner shops do this as well? I will have to arrange w/ Gideon or anyone else in the Bay Area to let me swap out for 5 mins to try the 08+ base cluster.. Advocate, fmicle, ezhacker, can one of you be nice enough to let me do that for 5 mins?  I will buy the person lunch (seriously)...
