I don't have ABS either, thankfully. The bulbs won't blow, but drl's just are horrid.

I disagree. The last thing you want in an emergency is for the car to do something you aren't expecting. The best thing you can have in an emergency is lots of experience driving your own vehicle. It is good to be able to play and exceed the limits in controlled conditions, so that when something does happen, you are ready. Also just driving defensively is better than having any electronic weight adding nanny's.

Ouch. It would be so nice to have an way to turn them off. Thankfully nothing bad has happened to you yet.
