In theory this resistorreduces the signal voltage from the MAF sensor, as a result of which the ECU will adjust the amount of fuel being sprayed into the engine.

BUT... Most modern cars including the Yaris have "learning" ECUs that can detect this change in the input voltage (only one variable is being changed, it sees it as an anomaly), and adjusts itself to give the amount of fuel it is supposed to in the first place.

As far as I can see, you'd really need a full ECU rewrite for this to work.
