you guys are all thinking about places with high population density and lots of air traffic. there are plenty of places that are NOT like that.

Further, small helicopters fly all over our airspace, and all they do is look around for other traffic and fly within their restricted height limits. Collisions are extremely rare.

Helicopters fly under somewhat differnt rules as far as altitudes and even locations is some ares.
Most of the helicopters you are refering to are clasified as emergengy aircraft and are permitted to go when they they are needed for the most part.

Granted in some sparcely poulated areas, you can fly mostly as you like provided you follow all FAA rules. However all poulated areas have very strict rules to follow for private aircraft.

As far as a fying car, the FAA has to first issues a cirtificate of airworthyness and then clasify the aircraft to dictate its use.
