All english words are neutral. whether it's a male dog or a female dog, you still use "a", basically in french and german there are different versions of "a" or "the", depending on the word you are describing... So a male dog is un chien, and a female dog is une chienne
And people complain English is tough

yeah, basically, yes. As I said, English just does not have this whole system, so essentially everything is neutral.
