- The impressive interior space.....people get so amazed at that ~
- It's so stable on the road for such a small car ~ I've been in a few small cars and driven some and they scare me how they feel like they are floating at certain speeds.....but not the Yaris ~

- Boot space can be a bit small ~
- The "Audible" lights.....my room-mate owns a Camry Sportivo.....her lights automatically turn off when she opens the door.....why couldn't they do that for the Yaris?!?
- No tinting.....Toyota was offering a great amount of money for tinting so I said "No Thanks" and will get it tinted myself ~

Absolutely love my Yaris ~

Us Canadians are paying about $1000 more for a similarly equipped Yaris (plus the 15% Canadian sales tax ).

Specifications are very similar, except the Aussies get telescopic steering wheel and Canadian get analog tachometer instead of digital (personally, I'm quite happy with the analog tach).

-no trunk to speak of!

- I'm on my 4th tank of gas and getting 45 MPG on a mountain commute. My goal is 50 MPG by mid-summer.
- Great visibility.
- The 1NZ-FE engine is a work of art and does a lot for what little it is.
- Great brakes.
- DFCO (Deceleration Fuel Cutoff).
- Smooth shifting.
- Light clutch and steering feedback/resistance.
- Over-sized window washer tank (Package B).
- It gets attention.
- The stock stereo plays MP3's and has the aux port extension.
- Good interior space.
- All the storage areas and cup holders.

Dislikes:

- The throttle latency. If this is what throttle-by-wire is always going to be like then I'd prefer to go back to an analog cable.
- The lack of a tachometer (hello, ScanGauge II).
- As small and efficient as the engine is there is no reason that it has to be in the ULEV-II emissions category instead of SULEV-II. IMHO this is a lazy design oversight on Toyota's part. Just adding a waste spark may have made this possible, and requires only an ECU software change.
- Cheap paint job. I already have 2 chips on the front edge of the hood.
- The rear hatch needs to live in a locked state and be releasable from inside the cabin.
- The steering wheel needs to telescope outwards. My arms are always near full extension and I find this uncomfortable during extended periods.
- The cheapness of the plastic interior. It took 4 coats of Armor All to get it to take initially.
- The soft part of the rear dashboard is one of the most useless things I've ever seen. It should either be self-retracting or the hardcover should fit the whole space. I'm not sure what you're supposed to do with the extra 6" of slack it offers, either.
- The ECU controls everything, and I mean everything. Even the 12V socket is slaved to the ECU instead of just the fuse block->battery. Plug a solar panel into it when the car is off and watch your battery drain rather than charge as the entire body/chassis side of the ECU initializes.
- I can see my door handles in the side mirrors and even after a few weeks it still distracts me from time to time.
- I only use control once or twice per year but I still notice the lack of it.

likes:

Styling(not the prettiest car I have owned, but still nifty)

Handling(very stable at high speeds and in windy conditions, even does well in heavy rain and moderate snow)

Braking(love the brakes. stops from 60mph to 0mph shorter than the lotus Elise as tested by Road and Track)

Milage(so far been getting over 40mpg while dogging it around in town)

Interior(a bit too much plastic, but very nicely designed)

Dislikes:

No power(I dont like having to shift into 3rd to get up a hill and stay at 55mph,and 0-60 in 2 years)

Touchy clutch(its like this clutch has no play, its more like a off and on switch. It would be a horrible car to learn to drive a manual. It also makes quick shifting difficult.)

Passing(if you are trying to pass a car on a country road quickly, rather than on a freeway. If you are trying to get around that car fast, you have to downshift enough to get RPM's above 4k just to get even half decent power. it all comes back to the no power issue)

I think Punch, ACRbill and I came from the same car before the Yaris.

What car was it?

Love that gas mileage. This is the first car I've ever had that has truely met it's advertised mileage! My last fill up was 39.69 mpg! I'm loving that. Regular gas, low insurance...it's all been listed.

I'm really upset that it won't pull hard past a Corvette!

Seriously, I love my Yaris, but nothing really comes to mind about dislikes. I don't think many of you are fair when listing some dislikes...I mean after all, it is a very low priced car, a high MPG car, so why many of you have some of those dislikes seems strange...I mean, what do you expect?

3dr Manual 5spd LB US California Power Package

Dislikes :

1) The rear bumper on the US model. I know it maybe stupid but I think it's too fat/sticks out too much (darn rebar). However it's there for the safety of the driver & passenger(s). *sigh*
2) Didn't like how it get's pushed around by the wind on the freeway. I Avg 70mph Hopefully will get better after lowering the car w/ DF210
3) Factory lips and skirts not available for US LB
4) Not having a center console tach. (Virgin manual driver when I first got the car.)
5) The antenna but fixed it w/ a sharkfin
6) The feeling like I'm force to "Race" to keep up w/ the flow of traffic. In otherwords underpowered, but I get what I paided for right?
7) The noise. Mainly the engine noise. It seems loud compared to my other car and parents sedans. I figured cause the engine is closer to me compared to my previous car. However still think it's loud
8) The US interior silver color. Where the mid vents, knobs, side door panels, and radio is located. I know it's stupid but I like the black glossy look that the RS gets.
9) The green lights. It's very Toyota. I wish to change those soon.
10) It doesn't have projector headlights. Sorry it's just one of those things where once you get them you can't live w/o them. Like HIDs! Just waiting on aftermarket. I'm not skilled like some of our other Yaris members to do it myself.
11) Not having a rear coat-hanger. Sure I could hang it on the handle, but it slides around a lot sometimes.

Likes:

1) Just the way it looks All the girls think it's so cute They ask to ride in it which leads me to number two.
2) The look in peoples faces when they sit in the car and realize how spacious the car is.
3) The extended shades/ sunblockers.
4) The driver side glove compartment
5) The US radio is dual din
6) Surprised on how good the stock radio is, but I swapped it anyways because of reason #5
7) US 87 octane! Since gas is getting more expensive week by week.
8) It's quickness since it's small and light. Love the look of other drivers with the wtf just happen look =p
9) The freaking cup holders!!! OMG they so rock!
10) The 40/60 rear seats for the occasional rear passenger.
11) The center speedo. Questioned it @ first but learn to love it the more I drove.
12) The price of the car A good starter car!
13) The growing aftermarket communities. They're slowly getting us things that we seek and love!

4 door w/ power package 11.5k miles

Likes: (loves is more like it)
MILEAGE - it just sips fuel, and I in no way baby it..
handling
internal space (4 full size adults in comfort + luggage = awesome)
Heat and AC rule
long distance comfort (I love the seats)
very stealthy visually
reliability (knock on wood, but not one mechanical issue..)
Over all looks - I love the way it looks
Cruise control
Turning radius (simply amazing)

Dislikes:
Road noise
non-adjustable steering wheel
cheesy horn (meep meep)

Thats it...

1. The price, it's a fantastic car for the price.
2. Gas mileage.
3. It's the perfect size for me, my partner and our jack russell terrier.
4. I love the look, it's little and quirky just like me.
5. I know its silly but I love the color (blazing blue). My car stands out in a crowd!
6. The aux jack, it's fun not to have to deal with an FM transmitter.
7. How smooth it drives, I still haven't tested it on the highway but in the city it drives great.
8. It's a Toyota so I know this car is going to last.

dislikes
1. I'm not sure what it is but not matter how hard I try to fix the seat or steering wheel my arms are always fully extended when I drive which does get uncomfortable after a while.
2. Due to reason #1 the armrest that I have is useless because with my arms fully extended I am no where near the armrest.

I've only had the car for a little over a week and haven't driven it on the highway yet so I can't think of any other dislikes right now.

Haven't found anything that I don't love about my lift back. I do wish there was an easier way to open up the back without having to remove the key.

I love that it's paid for, the 3 overhead lights, sitting higher than my Tercel and the little hooks that hold down the floor mat. It's great on gas, easy to park, surprising people with how roomy it is on the inside.

The good:
Car's shape: cute and rounded without looking overly pudgy
Car has a solid feeling for its size, for example the satisfying "thud" when you close the door.
Interior design and space, multiple storage compartments
Handling, with lower, stiffer springs and wide wheels
Mod potential and aftermarket support

The bad:
Clutch has no feeling, it's hard to tell when it is engaging.
Gear changes could be less clunky (can't compare to my mom's cheap honda )
Not much low-end torque, combined with the weird clutch it's easy to stall until you are used to it.
Center gauges, as much as I try to like it, i'd still prefer them in front.
Hard to hear the turn signal light indicator.

The ugly:
Stock rubber shift boot, but that's easily remedied
Stock steering wheel, but that can be remedied too
Stock suspension height = 4x4 Yaris. Not hard to fix either

Love:

1. Cupholders (keeps my drinks warm or cold for me, and I don't take my eyes off the road to look down).
2. The blue stitching in the seats. Goes well with my exterior.
3. The easy 180 degree turns.
4. The COMPARTMENTS!!!
5. The gas consumption (or lack thereof!)

Dislike:

1. Annoying sound when I'm in reverse.
2. The ac/heat gauges - very awkward placement and setup.
3. No tachometer.
4. No center armrest (yeah, I know I can always buy one).
5. No standard ABS.

I finally found a steering wheel/ seat position combination that suits me. I'm remving that from my list of complaints.

That pretty much just leaves "this thing is gonna flip over body roll" on the serious list, and a couple of small things like "cheap silver plastic around AC controls" and "seat fabric" on the minor one.

St G, if you have body roll down for as a serious issue for the Yaris, please try a VW Fox or a Citroen 2CV. You will immediately remove all reference to body roll from your list of dislikes for the Yaris.

Those models are sort of hard to come by in the U.S.... The body roll of the Yaris seems to me worse than that of the current or last-gen Golf/Rabbit, which is the closest point of reference I have to the Fox. And I don't really have any point of reference at all for the Citroen. Looking at its Wikipedia page, I know I certainly have never driven anything that looks like one.

Let's see here:

The Bad:
Cup holders: I live in a cold climate, therefore if I want to have something cold in the morning, it can't sit in the holders, and there is nowhere else to put it... Even though there are PLENTY of other places that COULD BE BETTER cup holders.
Gas Mileage: Rated 34/39 get 27avg. Not even close, not even enough to say "Well they use a regulated course for their tests".
Seat Position: If you are over 4' don't even bother to buy this car. No telescoping Steering wheel. Abosolute crap long-term driving position.
Compartments/Cubby Holes: All worthless...
Engine/Road noise: Got a fog horn? You might be able to hear it over the engine noise of this vehicle, of course it would help if you weren't sitting on top of the engine.
Windows Fog Up: God, where to start on this. The windows are impossible to keep unfoggy without having the interrior at a VERY unreasonable temp. I could be naked in the cab of this car and still not feel comfortable AND have fog-less windows.
Center Console Height: Seriously, it should be the same height as the Driver Left Armrest, It isn't, its FAR lower. Another crap for long term driving.
Wind: I don't feel safe driving in windy conditions. I'd rather take my 15yr old nissan for a trip.
CD Player: Inconsistant. Sometimes continuing playing where left off, other times it jumps to a song far along on the disk. Don't really care, I use the audio In jack (See next line).
Audio In: Could it be in a more crappy spot? I mean seriously, I have to get on my knees to get the plug in correctly. If you have one, get a cable, leave it in, never take it out. Also that comparment side is slightly smaller than the driver side, Can't make it simetric?
Rear Window: Hard to explain, it slopes at an angle, so if you look in the rear view mirror while coming off a hill, you can't see anything.

The Good:
Cheap
Comfotable for everyone BUT the driver
Plenty of trunk space
Good turn radius

I'm kinda annoyed with functions of this car. There are spots where somehting would be obvious and not use, yet there are other spots where I think "WTF was this moron thinking".

One of these items is a spot under the final dial on the climate control... It is obviously separated from the rest of the plastic moulding. It could have been an ash tray or cup holder, possibly the most useful cup holder in the vehicle. Yet it is nothing, not even a worthless compartment such as the "Driver Side Knee Compartment", yet another worthless place to put nothing bigger than a penny.

I'll come up with more and edit the post as needed.
