Scuff up the bottom of the metal dipstick with a small file to make the oil stick to it a little better and make it easier to read.

My dipstick has a yellow plastic top with a lenght of metal to measure the level. It's not all plastic.
Also, it's awful trying to read the level. I too let it sit overnight , then I can see where it is.
