you only need to be in the car while it is aligned if you weigh in over 300 pounds... and even then not so much... an alignment is done by adjusting various angles according to MANUFACTURER specifications... there is also a very big safety issue with having the vehicle owner sitting in the car, and to do an alignment, there is a brake pedal depressor and steering wheel holding tool... please do not advise people to insist on sitting in the vehicle, because that is the wrong way for an alignment... /rant
