I'm also not a big believer in ditching cars and getting new ones. It's neither economical nor ecological. I've only had one other "new" car in my life (and it was a program car so not REALLY new), and this is my first new Toyota. The previous 5 Toyotas were all purchased used and driven until they dropped (or close to it).

I suspect that the Yaris attracts 2 types of people primarily: those who, like me, don't care about having fancy cars and want reliability and good gas mileage, and young folks who are just starting out and think it's cute.
Well said.

I've never owned a luxury car but I've learned throughout my life that I don't even like simpler luxuries like power locks. Every little trinket that can be added onto a vehicle can fail easily, is expensive to repair and adds to the initial cost of the vehicle considerably.

Even though I've not owned a luxury vehicle I know plenty of people that have, and I'm not impressed. An associate of mine has a Porsche Cayenne turbo which spends 3 days a month in the shop. That's 10% of its life!

Touch screen display issues, heated seats not working, power locks no longer engage... these are prime examples of fluff items failing, causing a trip to a shop even though not one of them has anything to do with the car starting up and driving down the road.

Life has enough drama without creating more for ourselves, and there are much more important and lasting things to do with my money.
