Well, I will break even at 140,000 miles. The gas savings from going to 40 MPG from 18 MPG means the car paid for it's self and anything over 140,000 miles is money in the bank. My truck was a 1995 and had 264,000 miles when I sold it. I expect the same life out of the Yaris.

haha... I just did this... I drove a 12mpg chevy when I first got back from japan, but it was a loaner from the grandparents... The last car I owned before the yaris was my 97 Mazda 626 which got 27-28mpg consistently (upwards of 30mpg highway).

Figuring in the cost of my yaris, minus the price I got for the mazda before I went to japan, and gas at $3 a gallon, and my life long avg for MPG's on the yaris being 40mpg.... it'd take me 574,000 miles to break even. That doesn't consider maintenance costs tho... and the Yaris has the mazda beat by a long shot there... so i'd guess it'd be more like 300,000 miles.

Before my mazda I owned a 86 Jeep Cherokee.... thing got 15-18mpg.

I guess the yaris has saved me more money too... if I was still driving the mazda... its possible I might have chosen to fly once or twice more on trips.... which would've bumped up travel costs to home from $60 up to $200. It really is hard to justify flying home when the trip is either 8hrs by car, or 2hrs by car+1hr by plane (plus the waiting around time) and three times the cost.... or four times the cost & 1.5hrs by plane.
