Why do waterpumps in these cars have such a short lifespan?
Enough for a bulletin from Toyota?

I don't know, but I sure am glad they aren't driven by the timing system like my old Honda is. Because it would be a ROYAL PITA to change it then.

wasn't there some correlation with people who upgraded pulleys and didn't have the belts tightened to spec having this issue more frequently than fully stock cars?

Trini still hasn't had an issue with his pump.... don't think he touched his pulley at all.
