Yaris front strut install question
I am installing tokico blues on my yaris and have hit a bump. i can't figure out how to get the rubber pieces off the top of the strut tower in the front. Do they just pull off? do I have to unscrew them?

Yep.
Get a blunt edge flat head screw driver and just pry it off.

I just went out and did it again. (wanted to check on my advice).
...use your finger nail, look at the top pan down to the first ring, go to the second ring and use your finger nail to pick at that second ring. It comes off quite easily. You might be confusing yourself by thinking all of the rubber portion is the cover. Don't let yourself think that the whatever you can see is the whole cover. ring=ridge.

that was so easy thanks. I was thinking the rubber piece was one piece like you said.

hehe, you're welcome. I did it last year. Took pictures meant for a write up but haven't gotten to it. I know there is a good one over at microimage you could refer to.

Hehe, I knew you were going to ask that!
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...50000P?prdNo=2 The appropriate size of that would greatly help. And the appropriate Allen wrench. Tip: SPRAY your favorite brand lube/nut loosen thinga ma bob now. Think smart by positioning the allen key in such a way that it uses the car's metal to hold it in place so that you can use both hands/arms for full leverage to turn the wrench.

6mm allen wrench in the middle, 17mm offset wrench for the nut, hold the allen wrench tightly and loosen the nut with the 17mm socket. should come off pretty easy, the tough part is getting down in there without removing the cowl. If you can't fit the tools, remove the wiper arms and cowl.

got the offset wrench and got the top part off. Now trying to take the nut the holds the strut mount to the strut off and the center of the strut where the allen key goes completely stripped out. Fuck.

Um...if you aren't concerned with reusing the stock strut, take a vice grip that will fit and clamp that part that needs the allen key. Again, do it in such a way that uses the car's body to keep it in place.
Assumption of course that there is enough bolt for griping.

Removing the cowl may be a pain, but it is so worth the effort in the end.
