I know why.

The Yaris starts rattling after 500 miles. Word gets around.

First it was my dashboard, then the hatch, now the little window on the driver's side.

Huh after 84.5k miles the only rattles I have are from empty cans in the front cupholder or loose change. There was a TSB about the dash rattle, and if under warranty Toyota has to fix free of charge.

That TSB was not for the 2010.

My dealer gave me the run around. Oh, well... Its a economy car, you should expect to hear rattles. The dashboard is plastic. Yadda Yadda. You don't have to bring it in until your 5,000 maintenance.. Blah Blah.

Their ingenious techs deflated my tires as a solution.

90,000 miles on mine and I've never heard a rattle. No other problems either.

Funny you mention that. I literally have an appointment to bring mine in due to loud rattles on both pillars where the seatbelts are and for the windows. The rattles don't bother me too much, but my warranty ends on the 18th, so I figured I'd might as well have them checked out.

Another reason for slower sales is probably the fact that this car is nearing the end of its design cycle. Many of the other subcompacts have recently been redesigned or are new. However, Toyota has already sold 22,000+, which still isn't too bad.

The amazing thing to me is how most of the the car makers' numbers were up. However, people are again starting to buy bigger CUVs and SUVs. Small cars, as you can see, however, are quite a ways down despite having more choices than in recent memory. Americans have short memories. Gas is $3.06 a gallon here.

Gee, NO TOYOTA should rattle !!!!!
Toyota should be synonym of quality

And that's why Toyota is falling back to competitors, because they don't put the quality they used to have.

Or maybe people thought their Toyota will unexpectedly accelerate into walls.

Then eventually find out that most cases, people didn't bother hitting their brakes.
