I wouldn't mind if gay guys could only patdown/look at the scanner for women, and hot chicks could only look at the men's scanner and pat us down.

SUCH a good point .... if I could hand pick the guy who was going to look at my goodies as walked through the scanner, I'd be OK with it. I'd walk through extra slow and make sure I wore something extra purdy underneath lol

I'd take the full body scan over the patdown. Simpler and more effective.

But first, I'd take the Greyhound instead.

But do you REALLY feel that the scanners cut into your "essential liberty?"

Seeing how flying is optional I don't quite see how it's cutting into one's liberty. That and they are kinda just glorified metal detectors. Sorry but I still don't see the big deal. I let a male doctor grab my balls when I was in high school so that I could play sports... was that also giving up my essential liberties?

it is optional, and the more these types of stupid things get put into law, the worse off the industry will do. Of course this government won't let it fail, so there will be even more wasting of money for bailouts...

The terrorists must be laughing like jackals at the mess they made of the airline industry, and the US in particular. Really, what terrorist is gonna blow himself to smithereens on a flight from Podunk to Pumphandle? Fact is, the industry is gonna have to go to profiling eventually, just like the Israelis. Personally, I like the idea of scanning with a device that detonates any explosive substance regardless of whether it is in the luggage or on a person. It would certainly help with standby: a muffled bang, and the PA system announces a seat available on flight #000...

No, scanners don't...

"Essential Liberty" is specific compared to the ever reaching definition of "Liberty." It applies to the essential Amendement rights, especially the First, Second, and Fourth of the Bill of Rights. The essential rights give ability to voice your opinion(s) and take your grievances to government.

In the case of the Fourth, it protects you against "involuntary" search and seizure. If you give consent, then it's not involuntary and then voluntary... it does not apply. This is why they (scanners) don't. I'm more concerned with the 'physical intrusion" and manner of the pat downs.

I wonder though, do you really have 'liberties' when you give in and let the thought of security take over? No one ever is really safe. All safety is then temporary?

Probably, the better way of saying it is: "The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts as are only injurious to others." -- Thomas Jefferson

Cheers!
