i did the same thing as u (tried to keep the stock HU) and i was very happy but now since i changed the hu i noticed a huge improvement.
biggest issues i found were getting the RCA out of the deck, i had to go with a 5 channel amp with a high\low addapter off the rear speaker lines (they have more base line) and a crossover/eq to tune it right. hope it helps
