Transmission Fluid leak
After my CV boot fiasco, i noticed that i was getting a steady leak of an envelope size stain on papers i leave under the car. Took it to the mechanic, said that maybe the half shaft went slightly out of whack after the insane pothole. Pretty much told me to just monitor how much fluid is left and refill myself. Im gonna jack it up and give a thorough search as best i can to find the exact source.
My car is an 09 April, think i can still get a warranty? O man....

warranty is based on purchase date and nothing else. well, mileage....but...
any way. 3 years 36k miles. dont even try to get it under warranty if you're over. you wont stand a chance, they're adamant about the 36k. |

Would I best be returning to stock suspension before heading to a dealership?

Can you refresh my memory regarding your CV shaft issue and how/what was repaired? Are you sure exactly where the leak is coming from?
Thanks, R2 |

not mine....36k, bumper to bumper. and it's not bumper to bumper....more like whatever they decide to fix.
i'll be buying a bmw next. it's seriously bumper to bumper. everything is covered except tires and the windshield. and tire plans are optional...as are windshield. so....with an $1800 windshield it'd be nice to have insurance on it. any way...back to toyota, again with the optional stuff and purchased stuff....36k warranty. |

You might want to check to see if the axle is fully seated. They are relatively easy to pop in/out, and if they are not fully seated they will leak when under pressure (when the engine is running).
There's a flat on the inner CV joint housing that you tap in with a large flat screwdriver and a hammer to seat the shaft.

yeah its still leaking.
It does show signs its coming from the driver CV side, cuz thats the only side that had the half shaft removed. Is there a PDF i can see to fix the problem? My mechanic did move the shaft to see how much play it had and was satisfied. He had also replaced the seal too at the same time with the boots.

The service manuals for both the AT and MT are downloadable from a sticky at the top of the DIY section of the forum.

i wasnt there when he installed it, but when i told him of the problem, he wiggled it for play. Im surprised it still runs if it doesnt seat correctly, which i hope is the problem so im done with it. Thank You again!
