Well, that's where all those "extra" features you mentioned came into play. Let us not forget that we had some mandated safety features too.

Theres a lot we got that we needed. Seat belts. Dash boards with non body pieceing components. Crush zones. I guess air bags.

ABS, traction control, self parking, radar cruise control...no.
