I saw some bike carriers on craigslist for $20, I might buy it depending on how often i will go biking...

I take it that this was a trunk rack? Go ahead and get it if you don't bike very much, and if you don't care about your car or your bike too much because they scratch your car like crazy, and I've seen plenty of those things fail.
