key OFF mpg, mystery solved.
I've got the best commute in the world for getting pretty fair mileage. Using every trick I could find here I was only getting 43 mpg driving about 40 mph (AC on always, it's Phoenix). I then ran my commute without ever turning off the ignition key. The route is actually 16.1 miles one-way. Using a key-off coast down when ever I see a red light in the distance I was only registering a 14.7 mile commute distance. Thant means that I've been stopping the odometer when I go motor-off-clutch-in/coast down mode. I've been coasting 1.4 miles per trip. When I apply this factoid to a true mileage it tells me I'm actually getting 47 miles per US gallon.
