If you just dropped the pan and drain it from there you only got 2 0r 3 quarts of the ~8 that are in there.
You could do that a dozen times and not get it all. Some shops have the setup to get it all and it involves hooking up to the transmission lines that run to the radiator (or something) This pumps the new stuff in while pumping the old stuff out and is about the only way to "change' the oil in it. Which isnt necessary unless you drive under really adverse conditions. Im not sure it is even then.
