I have a 1974 super beetle but i am thinking of selling it and get a Honda civic eg or swift Gti. If you were in the same situation as me.Which one would you go for? Any of you driven either what was the experience like?

I would say civic cause of the vast aftermarket parts for that car . I haven't seen many swift gti modded

I had a 2001 plain old Swift (manual transmission) right before my Yaris that I bought new. I bought the Yaris because the steering rack on the Swift (at 151,000+ miles) had about 500 safe miles left. However, the steering rack would have lasted MUCH longer under normal circumstances....dirt and gravel roads to campgrounds on Newfoundland in Newfoundland and Labrador Province, Canada (in addition to the TERRIBLE roads throughout Saskatchewan Province, Canada) chewed up the rack....BUT it was worth it...Canada is so beautiful!

I remember a friend of mine adjusted the clutch for me for free and the last tires were the 2nd set of replacements, and I replaced the battery. I did a lot of oil changes (my idea). I don't think I changed the spark plugs nor had to touch the brakes, but if I did it was only once each. I got rear ended by a Ford F-150 at a stoplight when the car had (I think) about 60,000 miles on it and (once fixed -- and they did a great job) the car didn't suffer any ill effects from the accident. That's it. It was a great car with great gas mileage.....and so easy to park. The parking factor and wonderful new body were the first things that caught my eye re the Yaris (I HATED the looks of the Echo (sorry, Bronsin and others)) I know I didn't have a Swift GTI, but I hope this helps!

Thanks for input, greatly appreciate it and I strongly agree.But the GTI is no slouch.

GTI B13 pocket rocket.

I have only owned 3 cars in my existence. An old school Ford Laser 91 model (carby) it was my first car.I loved that thing. Second was a Nissan 1.8 ltr Sentra, we call it Pulsar In Australia.It is worst of the 3.It was boring, it had a pod filter which made it sound faster than it really was.First gear was sluggish, second and third were equally uneventful.The ride was boring at best.My ford wasn't a great car,but I had fond memories using it to go for a beer and had a blast in it.The Yaris is my 3rd, i was immediately impressed with the Yaris.Nice zippy performance.I have had it for 4 years now.Nice car and extremely reliable.It doesn't have that "thrill" factor you get from a hot hatch.I have a bug (1974, super beetle) that I am restoring.I haven't driven yet, heck i haven't even gotten around to get it to fire up.Doing some rust treatment, curious to know what they are like to drive.If I like I might keep it.
