I've never driven a Yaris sedan. I've never felt that my Yaris hatchback is underpowered....perhaps partially because of the manual transmission. I had a Suzuki Swift with a manual transmission before the Yaris and I always felt I could get enough power from downshifting. We don't have a choice of engines for the Yaris here in the U.S. (1.5 L only), and the sedan hasn't been available for individual cutomers since the 2010 model year (if I'm not mistaken). I widh we had engine choices. I'd go for the 1.0 if it meant a 10% bump in MPG, but that size engine hasn't been enormously popular in the U.S. in the past.
