Thanks. I really value your opinion, and I just wanted to know (re future purchase consideration) if your reason was mechanical or ergonomic (meaning something I would need to put on a con list during consideration). I do like the 2nd gen look better as well, but I do like that the 3rd gen is still distinctive (in a different way).

I like everything except the body style. When I'm driving I can't see the outside of the car so it's all good.

The 3rd Gen body style is growing on me (both 3-door and 5-door). The only 3 things I can think of (off the top of my head) that I really dislike about the 3rd Gen are: 1. The two tone seats (not an improvement over the arguably lamentable 'polka dot'...but both 2nd and 3rd Gen = easily corrected via aftermarket covers, or less easily by seat replacement) 2. Miss the 'old school' keyed latch (like mine) for the hatch (a relatively minor issue) 3. The dash (as previously mentioned on this thread....but I left out that this has nothing to do with the change re location of the instrumentation).

A few days ago I got behind a '13 Yaris at a stoplight. I noticed that it had what looked like a keyed hatch opener on the 'chrome strip' on the hatch. Is this new for the '13? I sat in a '12 at a Toyota dealership when they first came out, walked all around it, and I don't remember seeing this keyed opener. Is it on the '12 as well? I tried searching (text and pictures) and couldn't find any text that would answer my question and the pictures I've found don't allow for a clear enough zoom to answer the question.

Are you referring to being able to open the back hatch with a key? If so, yes the 2012 has this. I apologize if I misinterpreted you.

Yes, that is what I wanted to know, . I missed seeing it when I looked at a 2012 when they first came out. I even mentioned it to the salesperson. Obviously he didn't know his own product well enough to point out that it does have this. I mentioned to him that I would miss that feature.
