Grrr! What would you do if you were in my situation.

Hello,

I need some advice. This is my situation:

The first week of November I went to a Toyota Dealership and put 500 dollars down for a Toyota Yaris Liftback with the Power Package with alloy wheels and abs brakes. The dealership valued my trade in at 1000 dollars.

With my trade in and my deposit the total of the car out the door was going to be 14,097.

I was told that it would take 12 to 16 weeks for the car to arrive. During the waiting period i was contacted and told that my car had arrived. then i was told it was not my car because it did not have abs brakes. During the waiting period I barely got a call from anyone on an update. I constantly called the dealership.

Pass forward to last week, over 4 months later and the car is set to arrive. When I called the dealership to verify that the car was for me I was told that it was. I mentioned on the call that the car did not say it had abs brakes in the inventory.

So I told them what are you going to do now. They gave me three options:

1. Get my money back.
2. Wait three more months (Yeah right, mind you my trade in has been at the dealership all this time.)
3. or buy another car a Scion Xa <- his idea. I said hell fucking no. I could had bought an xa 5 months ago. I hate the xa.

I really want a yaris and as much as i don't like the sedan I said i was willing to buy one if they could come close to the 14,097 price that I was given from before. I was told that they would check on that.

I finally got a quote on a sedan with the options i wanted on the liftback for 15,474 out the door that is including trade in and deposit. They said they were willing to go down a couple of hundred dollars. Fine, i dont have that in writing so i wont believe it to I see it.

Now my question is, what would you do?

My issue is this, I am planning to pay cash for my car, not only I was mislead all this time, but now I feel that I shouldn't give my hard earned cash to these people. They expect me to pay 1,000 extra for a car i didnt want in the first place and i could had bought 5 months ago. This was their mess up not mine, i stuck to the deal damn it.

FYI- This all because of abs brakes.

well if your willing to walk away from them, tell them the price your willing to offer, if they say no way, get your deposit, and trade-in back and walk out the door..

p.s. usually you don't give the trade-in until you get the new car delivered or is this the way its done in the USA?

Well the reason why i left my trade in was because I didn't want to risk driving the car for 3 months and something happening to it. Well i don't think i should have to pay more than what was stated in the beginning.

There must be a lot of newbies at that stealership because options on Toyotas simply don't work that way. The packages that are listed in the "Build Your Toyota" section of toyota.com are exactly what the dealer can order. The packages can't be broken apart by you or by the dealer.

ABS comes in Option C, which also includes the Power Package. In other words, if a Yaris has power locks then it also has ABS whether or not it is specifically reflected on the invoice.

This means they first car they received for you was exactly what you asked for.

See this is another problem. In november when I ordered the car the option said it was Power package with alloy wheels and antilock brakes, i have the print out from the inventory. Now the same option doesn't say antilock brakes. Toyota change the option some time in the beginning of the year. The dealership had to know this.

Just cut to the chase and contact Toyota Motor Sales USA. This whole situation with US dealerships screwing American buyers trying to buy the Yaris is ridiculous. The way I see it, if you're about to put $15,000 in the pockets of Toyota they should be doing anything and everything they can to give you a fair deal. That means no lying, no going back on your word, and no price gouging. If they tell you they can do something and it turns out they go back on that word, guess what... they said it, so its their turn to jump through some hoops. You can get anything on a Yaris with the right amount of money and enough patience to wait for it. If they have to bring in a Yaris from California, dammit, make them do it.

I contacted Toyota and this is exactly what they told me.

Sorry but it is upto the dealer to fix the issue.

Apperantely I am going to have to go fly somewhere else and get the f_cking car I want.

Unbelievable.

If anyone in the midwest (or anyone willing to drive for one) gets in this situation, please contact me. I'll hook you up with a nice dealer that doesn't eat the souls of their customers. This is .

After the accident with my Yaris LB, I thought they might total it out so I checked with the dealer I originally bought mine from so I could get a new one. I liked the options mine had (except for the slushbox) so I had them find me one with the same options, minus the auto, and in the blazing blue color I love. They found one at another dealer and told me they could get it no problem doing a dealer trade with no markup. I would check with another dealer in another town, after you get your trade-in and money back. I know here in WA state sales tax varies by city/county, so you could even save some on tax if that applies in your area.

Plain and simple, they didn't get you what you ordered, and had the "idea" that you could buy a car the dealer makes more money on than they do on a Yaris. Forget about that dealer and take your business elsewhere.

start checking around at other dealerships bud, cause that is just messed up. I would not go for it, and even if I did purchase a vehichle from those jerks I would only offer to give them less than what the car is worth...if they really want to sell it, make them dig into their pretty commission...

Fuck that dealership, that's right. I said Fuck 'em. Go to another dealership, tell them what you want and have them find it for you. I find it ridiculous that there's so few places that are willing to do a little extra leg work for their customers.

Most dealerships love to hear horror stories about other competing dealerships and they will try extra hard to make you happy. Let them! I bet they give you a sweet deal.

I echo those last sentiments. As I remember, the dealer has the ability to order a vehicle made for you. What is it called? a "Preference Order"? I was told up here that it would only take 8 weeks and $500 down. They just transmit the request to Toyota.

If the dealership was indeed "good", they'd make the situation right. It doesn't seem like they will though. Take your money and go somewhere else!

As for the response from Toyota, *grumble*, they're right technically. Don't think of the Dealership as an extention of Toyota but rather a poorly run private business that WANTS to make as much money off you as possible.

The latter is almost always the case.

low ball the price of the car, take off 2-3 grand, won't matter. If they say no, take your money back. Also you may want to get a lawyer, since they kept your vehicle, can't your charge them rent? As they are the ones that broke the contract.

WRONG....just because the LB has the Power Package does NOT mean ABS too! I have the Power Package on my 2007 LB and I do not have ABS...

Escalate your issues to the Owner of the dealership, sales manager, AND the Toyota Regional Office....the dealerships is manned by incompetent idiots....demand that the regional office expedite your order ASAP! Did they give you any paperwork detailing the options you ordered? Escalate this to the powers at regional...the dealerships suck...ALL OF THEM....I purchased 2 2007 LB's, one for me and one for my daughter, and during both transactions, the sales people lied to us about EVERYTHING....
