That's interesting, the one I've been using is a Sandisk, I might try my others, maybe that's the issue ...

Well, I've tried two other USB drives, one an Emtec, the other a generic supermarket one, but we have the same problem.

Here is a pic of the unit in the base Yaris' (the YR) here in Australia, you'll note our USB port is at bottom centre of the unit, not in the glovebox like in other countries:
