NJ Drive, I'm with you on this one, most tires I have run need a heat cycle and a shelf time before all out running/racing. I've only experimented with R-Compound tires for the most part, Yokos, Toyos, and Kumhos, but all needed a heat cycle and then about 24-48 hours down time before racing on them. Tires would also last much longer this way too! Not quite sure what to think of the current crop of 140+ tread wear rated Street and Touring tires, but I'm looking to go a slightly different direction than most around here. I'm more than likely going to run Federal 595RS-Rs in the 195/50/15 size, due to our much shorter/ tighter coarses, where gear plays the biggest part.

i LOVE my RSRs. I haven't run them during competition in autoX, but have at Adams (go-kart track) and have posted decent times with those.
What I like about them more than anything? The price. |

Mine is still very stock, so in other words heavy! My plan is to kinda go with the Andy Hollis weight lose plan, replace driver's seat, lighter exhaust, >13 pound wheels, and hopefully lighter suspension. But hey with every pound making a difference, 50-100 pounds can be huge, so shouting for at least 100 lbs. removed.

Yep, I was at 2160 at nationals. I still have the stock seats to replace and go lighter on the battery.

Yeah. I figured three door 2nd gens are going to be 80 to 100 lbs lighter than me on average.

Follow this link http://www.nediv.com/ and look into the "solo" part. There's also a cool video about "autoX" here: http://www.solo2.com/ You might also find that video in YouTube if you search "Sea of Cones" NJ Drive might be able to assist you further in your particular region. :) |

Since you're in NJ...
www.autox4u.com There are plenty of events at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford run by no less than three different clubs- NNJR SCCA, MSNE, NNJR PCA. I still think one of the best online tutorials is had by the Rocky Mountain Region SCCA here: http://www.rmsolo.org/rmsoloschool/index.html If you're in South Jersey, there is also SJR SCCA as well as Philly SCCA just across the river. |

In race trim our 2012 was 100lbs heavier than my 2007, but the 2012 did not have the carbon rear hatch, hood, still had door bars and a complete dash. If anything I think the newer car could be a touch lighter than the older ones. Now if you have a 5-door you could be a bit heavier due to the difference in glass and extra bits in the doors.

In our area theres the local SCCA group, then theres the Tarheel Sports Car Club, and if that ain't enough, we've got Triad Sports Car Club putting on events. Only issue we have right now is that the SCCA group has yet to release a 2013 event schedule, getting nervous that there might not be any events.

Well to be ohnest the Triad events are about 3 hours away, but I have Family in that area to stay with. Right now I'm working on an Auto-X Trailer to make these trips easier, just hate loading and un-loading from the hatch!

What's the consensus on hub spacers in Street Touring, legal or not legal? I'm not seeing an allowance for them but would like a second opinion.

Seems to be a gray area that is kinda open to inperpretation of the rules, I'm pretty sure I've seen some cars with them, just never looked that closely. Autocross rules like Showroom Stock rules, leave alot of items that state if it doesn't say you can do it, it's not legal. It's a great question, I'd like to know the answer to also.
