Smaller cars make more sense . A lower monthly payment and less money in the tank . Money that can be used to help the economy , use towards your payment , insurance , house payment , taxes , or utilities . The '11 FIT is under $190 a month with .9 % rate . More money towards the principal . So when or if traded is less cash lost due to depreciation . The gas mileage of the FIT doesn't hurt too , http://www.fuelly.com/driver/cinder/fit . The '08 sedan is paid for .

I think a certain percentage of the people who might want an Avalon Hybrid or a Camry Hybrid and would be happy with that 35 MPG (as Why? mentioned) and might be able to stretch and make the payments and avoid a repo on one of those cars should instead be looking at the situation the way you did with your vehicle purchases. They should get a car that is an appropriate size for their needs, but change one or more of the variables so that they incur a lower overall cost of ownership (especially per mile).
