That's been my experience as well. I've been to two Discount Tires and was dissatisfied at both so I don't even think about using them.
Another interesting thing I found out about buying from Tire Rack: I was going to buy a set of tires from Tire Rack but before ordering, I visited the recommended installation location to make sure they could accomodate me. The guy then undercut Tire Rack! Told me he could get the same tires for less. So, I went with that.
Now, when I buy stock sized tires and only need 'adequate' tires, I just buy them at Costco. I have been extremely satisfied with their service. They have never scratched a rim, torque alloys by hand, and they do such a great job of mounting that I lose almost no pressure. I can go 3~4 months without checking my tire pressure and when I do, they are only down 1~2 pounds.
