That's not going to be fun. When I mess with a lock I test the opening and closing by using a screwdriver as the door catch to make absolutely sure that it works before putting the panel on and then again before closing the door with the panel back on.

The cable may be pinched under those foam blocks under the panel or it may not be seated properly under the little door on the lock assembly.

The top panel of the door is somewhat removable, but there are plastic bosses that go into a hole and then are melted to keep them from pulling back though. You would need to force them to break without cracking the rest of the panel. Once you get it off and then get the door open and remove the rest of the panel you can with use self tapping screws to reassemble to two sections or can glue them.
