What are you doing?

Hey Everyone,

There are almost no car meets going on around here and I just keep wondering, if it’s not private, what are you guys doing?

I myself have been struggling over a couple of difficult college courses (astronomy, calculus). I’m also a computer scientist and am transferring from android to ios, so I’ve been learning a couple of things at a slow pace when school allows. I’ve also been trying to learn a couple of other things like soldering and stuff dealing with electronics in general.

What am I doing? I'm working on my other car...

The Yaris is doing the daily driver routine, helping me pay my bills. We have cars & coffee going on out here all year as long as it's not raining or worse.

I'm about to throw down for a "big" turbo upgrade on Friday.

Tubular manifold, GT3071r, TS Hypergate45 WG, TS Raceport BOV, all the other regular accoutriments, FID 1000cc injectors, rescale, dyno & tune on gas.

The shop mentioned that I should "learn" the car at 350-375hp as I'll be doing HPDE and CSCC track day events. The tuner mentioned that the SCCA types usually run 3-400hp and the time attack drivers run more than that more often. We can re-tune it to 400hp when I feel I'm ready. After that we'd install all the fuel components I have for it taking it above 425hp...as well as building the engine...

Yes, it's single scroll. Doing my research, I came to the result that the 3071 will spool just fine seeing that it's DBB and a smaller turbo. This along with the purpose of the car, being an HPDE car...and perhaps at some point a time attack car...I won't need massive power. I'm thinking of maxing out this setup with a GTX3071r at some point...only after exploring the 500hp mark with the current turbo.

I have no issues with getting to or working at the track...

I'll be at the track again on Saturday. Enough of these days and I'll have my season membership paid for.

Okay...I lied.

We decided to use the 3076r instead. Cruel world.

The hot side of the turbo has been removed and is accompanying the headers for ceramic coating. One has to protect the investment and keep the heat in the exhaust system for a few extra ponies.

...they didn't have the 3071 in stock so they replaced it with a 3076.

Cold side installed

Hot side installed

The hot side is ceramic coated along with the entire manfold. I'll be wrapping the downpipe and putting a blanket on the turbo itself.

the rest of the small stuff is going on tomorrow, tuning on saturday.

cross your fingers for 425 to the wheels.

Yeah..I'm not playing this with the Yaris. I'm too paranoid to mess with my daily.

Same here. I don't have a garage to let the car sit or a second car. I keep beating myself of whether to touch my car or leave it as is.

I went to a car cruise (1st one ever) got passed by miatas in such an embarrassing way. Not that the miatas are embarrassing, just that I thought the Yaris was a bit faster :(.

Tiamat is my DD and has been boosted 4 years now. Only blown the one motor which had her off the road for 3 weeks. Took that long because of lack of buddy assistance. NORMALLY you don't blow the motor so don't make that a reason not to.
