Is the "Maint Reqd" light the one that is on? If so, they just forgot to reset it.
You can do so yourself by changing the odometer to the trip A display, turning the ignition off, holding the trip switch, turn the ignition back on and wait for the numbers to flash. When they get to all zeros, release the switch.
