No not at all. Havnt seen that kind of opinion since I read "How To Keep Your VW AliveFor The Compleat Idiot" in the 60s and my father saw it. He was strictly a Chevy man and couldnt understand anyone not buying American. HE hated foreign cars! I overheard a conversation between him and mom about my love for VWs. They wondered if they were raiseing a degenerate!

But (after gas prices went up in 73) walking home from college spring break I saw a VW in our driveway. "WHo do we know who drives a VW" I wondered. "And how would they DARE to park it in my fathers driveway!"

It turned out it had a blown engine and he bought it for $300 for me to fix!

Erm...something like that. The previous year my best friend and I fell in love with the same woman. I lost he won. I got accepted to college after my jr year in high school so I went to get the heck out of town! By the time he bought the VW I was more or less over it.

But Im pretty sure that's why he bought it to cheer me up!

He DID NOT like foreign cars but for that he could make an exception!
