Yaris should do way better

You bring up a great point. However, if the Yaris was engineered to give better mpgs, surely it would cost more? I'm not sure how much, however. I like it because it's cheap. I'm still amazed that the Corolla can be had for only a bit more than the Yaris, consider how much more "tech" it has on it.

Not necessarily...put it on a diet, that's the best first step. Maybe hone the aerodynamics a bit. Expensive would be designing new transmissions, though maybe they can tweak the Corolla 6mt to fit? Same for CVT, though I'd rather see a six-speed auto, not tht it matters since I wouldn't be interested in an auto box no matter what form it takes...the 1NZ can and does do well, if given the proper environment.
