When I had mine done and I and the toyota body shop talked to Garm at the now defunct microimage he said the only thing I needed was the jdm crash bar as it's a different shape and doesn't stick out so far, they didn't have to touch the brackets. If someone was to replace both the crash bar and the brackets (assuming they're shorter than USDM) it would be too short. You'll have to get the crash bar for sure so you'll need to order anyway. Just keep the brackets unopened and return them if you don't need them.

Did anyone try looking up the part number for the USDM brackets to see if they're the same?

Also I think I saved the repair bill which has all the part numbers if you'd like I can check it.

Astro is right, you do not need the shorter brackets.

Also, I used my stock USDM crash bar and just notched it to fit. It's snug, but it fits so I can see how the slimmer JDM crash bar would work without getting shorter brackets. Here is my RS front on with the stock USDM crash bar and brackets. BTW, the rear USDM can also be notched to fit the RS bumper. See below for both fitted.
