Acutally because the shelf is only so wide we don't push the front seats up all the way. You might be able to get a few more inches esp if you made a board that was wide enough and layed it a little higher then the hight of the folded back seat.
Also it was the wife and I in the back so if it was just you then you could lie at a 45 degree angle bottom left corner to top right corner and get a bit more distance.....
OR just sleep slightly curled up ;)
