Strangely enough, i actually agree. About a month ago, I nearly got wiped out after getting hit in rear by a large truck...
It was a low speed hit (aprox 15-20 mph) and the rear bumper absorbed the shock very well. No crack, just 2 small deformations.

It did however push the car almost half-way in the intersection since I wasn't hard on the brakes. With some quick reactions I was able to safely clear the intersection...but man was that ever scary...
