I think the car should have come with 195/60's. They certainly look better... and they work so much better.

I totally agree. They also should have come with a rear swaybar!

completely agree! i've been running that size on my factory-height 07 sedan for the last 5-6 years(they're on aftermarket wheels, however-15x7 et38). it fills up the wheel wells so much better, but i'm not sure they'll work if i ever decide to lower it i kept the factory size 185/60/15s on with the original steelies and tanabe df's on my other yaris 3-door.

looks good

185 will provide better traction in deep snow
185 weigh about 1lbs each lighter (0.4536kg) total rotational weight 4 lbs (1.8144kg)
185 cost's $10 less per tire. ($40 saved x 500,000 to manufacturer "works better" for them)

i like wider tires too, i'm just saying "work better" is subjective
(...and sometimes i'm just a jerk smartass)

Snow traction isn't a concern for me as I have a dedicated set of steel wheels and 185/65R14 winter tires. I wondered about how a wider tires would perform, especially in situations where there is standing water on the highway or sandy, windy roads. After seeing people on here running 195, 205s etc, I was less concerned. Not really sure about the physics of tires, but it would make sense to me that a wider tire, having less pounds per square inch contact would be more likely to break loose, barring a softer tire compound.
