Fuel economy with Supercharger

Hello out there. I know that many Yaris owners have installed the Blitz Supercharger system. I did so as well. Love it! Except, I have a question re. the fuel ecnomy afterwards. Now, I do expect some decrease in economy, but mine has REALLY dropped. Even driving it normally to light, my gas mileage has dropped by no less than 6 mpg. I just need to know if this is normal after installing a Blitz Blower and driving it light to normally? Switch is in low position all the time as it is most comfortable to drive that way.
Pls advise. Thanks!
RKP

"low" means the s/c is on most of the time, if I understand correctly. Meaning, it comes on at a "lower" throttle position, or sooner.

what mileage do you get with it "off"?

having it on "low" means it engages almost all the time. if you are running an entire tank with it switched on "low," don't be surprised you aren't getting good gas mileage. I would think maybe 24-28mpg?

How odd... since installing the s/c my mpg has gone up, though just 1-3 mpg on avg.

I run mine on Medium and it only kicks in when I need the extra acceleration. What I don't like about the Low setting is that while I'm feathering the throttle to maintain speed, the clutch engages and disengages more than I would like.

My gas mileage in the Medium setting ranges from 32 mpg to 37 mpg a tank depending on the amount of freeway driving.

She left the forum when some people were joking around and were being a little disrespectful of women.

She posts on the MicroImage Club website, however.

I totally get this!! I haven't been driving with the 'charger on much during the winter. But at the end of last season, whenever I'd have the A/C on, and the car was idling, I'd get some nasty sounding vibration. Don't need my foot on the brake, but my parking brake would be on so the car doesn't roll away. Anyhow, couldn't locate it. Just sounded like something buzzing against something else. I'll be trying to find it again in the spring.

I'm pretty sure that the Japanese (and Europeans) have a different octane rating system... I think it tends to be about 5 points higher for the same quality gas. So maybe closer to 95 North American octane might be more appropriate.

I try to always fill up at one of the few local Sunocos... 94 octane!

yeah there's Octane Number and Research Octane Number, which means some differences... For example our 91 octane here is equivalent to 87 octane in the US, our 95 is your 91, etc...

i havent heard any weird noises. but there is the odd random lean condition which happens cruising on highways. seems like preignition to me. im hoping sparkplugs will fix that. theyre going on tomorrow morning

Hmmm... I see my user name has been repeated three times... this has invoked my spirit, so here I am back from The Beyond...

Congrats on your fast install Whooppee! I was about to be jealous of your success but then your idler pulley fell off! I think I still win the award for loosest nuts... loooooong story

I'm also glad--well, not glad--gratified maybe--to learn that the rest of you are experiencing similar tuning issues. I've had a few baffling problems (idle control and voltage fluctuation problems) but in the end these were easily fixed, and unrelated to the pre-ignition. As Long stated, I was getting that distinctive "crackling" sound (sorta like furiously sizzling bacon) the first time hammering the throttle under load in any driving session (very much like what Camelll describes). I drive with it on Low most of the time--no other acceleration issues, just smooth power delivery in every gear. I installed NGK iridium 7 spark plugs before the compressor, and only used 93 octane fuel, so gas treatment was about the only adjustment I could make. Much better, though not gone altogether.

BUT I got the cheapee STP stuff--the Lucas or NOS products are better? Where did you buy?

hey it ran with no problem for about 4 hours. if i wasnt so damn tired and excited to just drive the car, i probably would not have tightened the pulley enough.

this could probably be taken the wrong way for a random user skimming through the thread. care to elaborate?

I was just kidding Whoppee, I was very impressed by the speed and success of your install... my own car was out of commission for more than three weeks making mine the slowest install of all so far

Haha sure! Sorry, I forgot that not everyone remembers I'm female, so I could only be referring to the engine's nuts

During my install the new manifold did not seat properly on the cylinder head, which is why though the nuts felt tight, I had a leak that caused all sorts of problems. In going over every connection for the bajillionth time I pressed down hard on the manifold... it slid those last few millimeters down over the studs at last! and my "tight" nuts were suddenly loose. Torqued them down and problem solved

Later I was having intermittent voltage fluctuation and finally discovered my connection on the alternator was bad. All the vibration basically "walked" the nut right off the terminal post... new nut and lock washer, problem solved again.

Oh... I think we're about tied for slowest, KK!! Glad to see you back!

Sizzling bacon, huh? Wow... I've never had any of the issues you guys are all talking about. I got my own weird set of issues... I'm pretty sure they're fuel related. Or a bad crimp somewhere. Worst thing is that it's totally intermittent!

Anyhow... Blitz on!

Help w/Blitz fuel controller wiring

Thank you sooo much for answering my plea for help! My mechanic called me late last night and he thinks he figured it out. However, until I get the car back running properly, who knows? In any event, could you please b so kind as to check back later beciuase if there is still an issue with the wiring, I will definitely re-post my cry for help right to your reply like this one...As far as a pink wire, I believe that the fuel controller DOES have this wire.....

Thank you again fo your reply and your kind consideraion! I will post results either way. Incidentally, how are you enjoying YOUR boosted Yaris? Mine was pretty fast even before getting the Blizt blower and Meagan racing header....Of course, I do not know the results just yet as my tech is still working on the car right now-today. I had previously installed a Next level Performance Tri-Phase module which really makes a diference. They claim an average increase of 17 HP improvement with this little module and I must tell you that it feels like that and even more! I have these Tri-Phase modules installed on 2 of my other cars and I am about to install two more on more vehicles that I own. They are AWESOME!!

I am a kind of mild collector, so my wife and I own like 10 cars...most are NOT everyday dirvers, though....if you are interested, you can see a few of them at www.cardomain.com and put rpalais into the empty search bar which will take yo righ to my garage page. Thanks again for your thoughtful kindness!!
