You'll see it for sure when you replace cyl #4 spark plug (owner's manual states iridium plugs only)

There are probably symptoms that go along with a stuck PCV valve. One I do know is excessive oil consumption, up to a quart of oil every 100 miles for V8s.

Don't know if there are reliable checks besides shaking it and listening to for that little ping as the check valve slaps back and forth.

Considering how cheap they are it's probably not a bad idea to replace them every 50K or so. Cheaper than a catalytic perverter or other emissions gear.

+1, a guy at work blew a crank pressure sensor ($200) out of his maxima because the pcv valve didnt relieve the pressure and overloaded it, he had 150k on it though

Did he drive it with a "Check Engine" light on? Sounds like it.

so the importance of changing the PCV is overshadowed by the importance of not being an idiot?

Had a 86 Pontiac that consumed a quart of oil every 90 miles. Meant that I added a quart of oil PER DAY.

Once I discovered that the PCV valve was hopelessly sludged up - I'd checked it six months before and it seemed fine - I was able to cut consumption from a quart per 90 miles to a quart every three or four hundred miles when I replaced it.

At 50,000 I changed it on my 2002 Echo. Very easy to change $7.10 at NAPA.

question I just replaced mine, but Im questioning i thought the one I took out was not all the way screwed into the block. I thought there was like two threads you could see between the nut portion of the PCV and the block it screws into. So I put the new on in to about the same point but now i'm questioning if that is what I saw or not..... Anyone recall who have have services this if it should be all the way to the block or if there is a gap. Ron

The picture above looks like a tapered pipe thread. If so, I wouldn't expect it to screw all the way in. Just till it's properly tightened.

The 1ND-TV Diesel engine does not have a PCV valve.
