I'll check later today and gank my friend's '09 cluster from his 3-door non-S MT, try it in my '07 3-door non-S MT. If that swap works, then the '09 S swap should work too.
Yay for infecting friends with the Yaris bug and them buying newer ones than I did!

Maybe I missed it, but does the programming for the odometer come from the car's
computer or is it in the gauge cluster itself? I could have sworn I read another post about this, but couldn't find it.

the miles are stored in the cluster. someone at toyota is going to have to plug up to it and change the miles. on the older yarii you have to consider that they came with or without abs too. if you have a non abs car and you put an 09 cluster in you abs light will stay lit up. also i believe the AT and MT cars do not share the same cluster either...so really there are 4 different clusters for the older ones.

**Update**
TRDSparks will not sell this part without first receiving VIN#, current mileage, name, address, etc. Apparently they can send the cluster and all vehicle info to Toyota so the cluster can be programmed with the correct mileage before being shipped to the customer. Since this part is made for the "S", Toyota will not approve of its installation in any other model/year Yaris, according to TRDSparks. |

^^^ Same with ShopTRD.com, who said the part is on back-order and didn't expect to receive it any time soon. I was able to get them down to $15.00 shipping though, but they still require all VIN and vehicle information prior to sale.

Anyone out there with a hookup for OEM parts that can get around Toyota's strict odometer regulations?
I ordered one of these online from TRDSparks, just to see what would happen, and the order was canceled in about 15 minutes after they learned from Toyota that the car had to physically be present and a bunch of paperwork filled out to verify mileage, VIN, etc. Apparently, ordering a new cluster online is not an option (since the company you order from has to, in turn, order the part from Toyota), which sucks since the dealers want about $520 to order from them directly and you can find it online for $340 or so. |

VERIFIED!
Swapped an '09 non-S MT w/ ABS cluster into my '07 MT *WITHOUT ABS: Gauge worked just fine, indicators were correct. *NO* ABS light either, no issues. Didn't take pictures, didn't have a camera with me, and literally took all of five minutes to do the test on my friend's lunch break (literally... he was eating the sandwich out in the parking lot at work while I did the test) so I can verify, for a fact, the gauge cluster for Liftbacks is compatable from '09 back to '07, so no reason the '08 clusters wouldn't work too. But yes, if you want the amber/red/gold look instead of the overly-blinding white/blue stuff, you can install an '09 into prior years without issue. Now... to track down an '09 S-model instrument cluster...
