Alot of domesitcs are now much more reliable and have better initial quality then japanese cars not to mention fuel mileage is usually better. Its not the 80's anymore cars are pretty even now in terms of quality and reliability.

I believe the 80s was when they made their cars well and 90s to now is when things are needing a tune up

I love that dope Mike Rowe on those commercials where the writing on the bottom says that initial satisfaction with Fords is better than Toyota. I see the key here as INITIAL. Hell, I can't think of any brand new cars I've owned that have broken down in the first year. Not even in the 70's, 80's, or 90's. But, I don't drive a car for 2 years and trade like many other people do. I drive them until the wheels fall off, and in every American car I have had, that has been well short of anything I can get out of a Toy. That's my own personal experience, having had nearly every American brand there was until finally running a 1979 Corolla for a couple hundred thousand miles and selling it to a guy who ran it that much more.

We had a 1998 Avalon that had 196,000 miles on it when I gave it to my daughter to drive. She still drives it everywhere every day. We never once had anything like a tuneup done on that car. Not one thing was ever done to it except a key switch had to be replaced several years ago. We changed the oil regularly and that is it. We did no scheduled maintenance BS.

i think the interior is kinda ugly.

And sorry, initial quality is about as worthless as you can get. Ask them how they feel 5 years down the line, that is what matters.

Not to mention even then it is based completely on people's opinions, not facts.

I had a 96 SHO, and the car was awesome in every way. A friend had a Mercury Mystique, and oh my that car could handle. Ford is much better than GM/Chrysler, but until they give us the real sports car, and not just the mustangs, I highly doubt I'd ever buy another Ford again.

do you think your yaris is a sports car? gm and ford have built alot more performance cars than toyota ever has. take a ride in a real car with a v8 and some torque and it might change your mind about your economy car with 106hp that will get smoked by most mini vans.

whats your point my friend has an impala with 170k on it only thing he has done is a set of intake gaskets. I have had several jeeps with over 200k my current jeep has 160k on the clock and it runs like new.

The OP's cars both have leaking head gaskets thats not exactly good initial quality if you ask me most people on here who bash domestics have never had one they all think japanese cars are the best thing since sliced bread.
