Water Pump Replaced
I have less than 75K miles and my pump bearings started to make the worst sound ever. I thought my 2008 Yaris was falling apart.
Just bought the replacement pump for about $35 and some anti-freeze for under $6. I think that's a great deal, without the warranty. If you have the warranty, be sure to use it as often as possible. |

I told the Toyota dealer when I bought the car (and they twisted my arm to extend the warranty) "Im paying top dollar to buy a Toyota when I would save money buying a Korean car. If anything serious goes wrong with the car I wont be buying another Toyota!"

I was going to say that the water pump problem appeared to be isolated to 2008 and earlier models,............................until I read Kongo-Otto's post.............................................. ......................................nevermind.

I think they wanted something around $1,000. Would have been 1,000 profit for them. Last edited by Kal-El; 09-15-2012 at 10:21 AM. |

Any Toyota Certified used car, 100k mile powertrain, warranty blah, blah, blah, the water pump is covered under that certified used warranty.

I was thinking about the Yaris/Toyota waterpump issue.
When a waterpump on a 1970s era American car went, the pulley wobbled and the pump leaked. It was possible to add water and drive maybe for a couple of weeks. But if you did that pretty soon the pump just blew and massive ammountes of coolant came gushing out. When mine went the pulley didnt wobble at all. I checked the coolant level weekly. It was never low. The ammount of coolant leaking as very minimal. There were pink stains on the underside of the hood, but never any dripping from the block onto the ground with the engine running. I t was about three months from the time I first noticed the underside of the hood until the dealer did the pump under warranty. If I was broke I would have kept driving it and checking the coolant level daily. Also checking under the car with the engine running for drips. I felt a little silly taking it to the dealer but it was on their dime so why not? Has anyones pump gone massively? Or are they all just a little leak with no pulley wobble?

I changed mine at about 90k miles. Mine's bearings had gone bad... it sounded AWFUL.
It started sounding weird for a bit, no signs of leaking... I knew it was coming from the belt area but didnt get it checked out before going on a 14 hour round trip and by the time I got back my engine started to sound like a dirty diesel. I took it to toyota dealership and they said it was the waterpump had gone bad. They took it out and found out it was just the bearing(s) and told me since the labor was already high to just replace it and the serp. belt. pretty expensive fix but its much better now.

No leak just noise. Now that the car is out of warranty (or will be in a couple years) Im wondering if I get a little leak to just run it and not fix it since Ill have to pay. But what happened to yours had to be fixed...

Please try to post your threads in the correct thread section. It's getting old moving all the stuff from the "general discussion" when this was service related. I've moved it to the proper sections

2007 toyota yaris water pump
I took my 2007 toyota yaris with 120K to the dealer last week and they told me that I my water pump is showing signs of leakage. Does anyone know where I can buy an OEM water pump beside from the dealer?
Thanks. |
