Oh man, super jealous of the diesel. When the gasser dies, I'd like to swap in the comparable 2.4diesel (ala topgear). 404 km is getting up there. Unfortunately the truck had an owner within the family and he didn't appreciate it quite as much as I do. I'm sure it would have lasted longer if properly maintained. It's sure up to spec now

Yaris Timing Chain
I too have had a problem with my 59 plate Yaris which the dealer states will cost £800 to fix.
The only indication of the fault is the orange waring lamp on the dashboard. There is no noise or any form of problem with the car apart from the warning lamp. I spoke to the dealer who said they would not be willing to partisipate with the cost of the repair. My car has only done 31.00 miles and I feel that Toyota should be willing to investigate the fault further,as the timing chain should last almost the same lifetime as the car. Has anyone heard of this problem happening to anyone else, and if so how did it work out for them. |

I would definitely want to see more data as to why the shop believes that a car that new needs the timing chain replaced.

Another chain story
My '08 Yaris has 45,000 miles and has NO SYMPTOMS. The dealer says I need a new chain. I have an extended warranty which he says DOES NOT APPLY??
What gives? |

Wow, it's been a while since I was in the UK but I still think in terms of the old system which used letters to distinguish when the car was made...
Now I see that since 2001 it's been numbers... More info here: Vehicle registration plates of the United Kingdom Cheers! M2

what a crock. those chains should be good for at least 100k (old school thinking) as far as i know that chain is "lifetime" and in my oppinion. its part of the powerplant. so it should be covered under your power train waranty. if the dealer wants to fight you on it contact toyota direct. write a bad review. make as much noise as possible. hech picket outfront of there store. do every legal thing you can untill they make it right or just ignore them. 4 years, thats so bullcrap. unless your sitster drives like 50k a year or more there is no possible way. someone has a boat payment due.
Good luck Sean Scott |
