noise during acceleration??

the yaris has a timing chain, no currently produced toyota engine has a belt except for the 2uz-fe 4.7.

well we i know its a chain.. its actually the noise when accelerating is what were trying to figure out...could be the chain making the noise..

You should replace the washer fluid with high performance red super temp, it's great at keeping the washer fluid cool when the 105.2hp is cranking away. That'll fix 'er.

Every review I've ever read about buzzy engine noises seemed to blame the use of a timing chain. That said, IMHO timing chains are much more desirable than timing belts, despite the noise. Replacing a timing belt (usually recommended ~60k miles) is an expensive to-do, and should you ever have one snap on you, it basically FUBARs your whole engine... pistons and valves get up-close and personal, and all hell breaks loose (literally). Toyota timing chains are so cool, they don't even require maintenance! (or at least that's what they told me about my Vibe/Matrix).

As far as the regular vs. premium, the only difference is how quickly it detonates. Premium burns just a tad slower and more smoothly due to the extra octane molecules tacked on the end of the molecular chain. Regular burns quickly, resulting in more of a "pop" combustion. Maybe that's has something to do with it? If I'm not mistaken, most fuel injected cars have "knock" sensors to detect pre-detonation and electronically adjust the timing to compensate.

Just a shot in the dark since fuel and the timing chain have already been disgused- What about the A/C compressor? They can make a whirring sound when the compressor clutch is engaged. Run your car with both the A/C on and off and see if it goes away. Remember, even if your A/C button if off, it is still on if your using the defrost airflow. Turn the fan switch off to be sure the clutch disengages.

i dont have my ac on... i may unplugged the battery maybe ecu will reset..otherwise..ill bring it in.. first tank was regular gas 87 octane from dealer..i heard the noise on acceleration but i switch to premium for the next 3 tanks..didnt notice it then..just went back to regular and its quite noticeable..hmmmm engine knocks...id say either timing too advance or antiknock sensor not working. well find out soon enuff..

men this noise during acceleration still botherin me. specially when the car is loaded its more noticeable.. doesnt anyone notice this. is it normal due to 105 hp ior is it the timing not adj or faulty air sensor .. anyone??? arghhhhh!! hope the cone filter im putting on soon fixes this. otherwise?
