Hello new to list

Dear all

We have a 2000 automatic yaris, 1.3 3 door. It has recently developed a intermitant noise, I would best describe it as a 'werring' noise. I was wondering if anyone knows what might be causing it. We have been to the dealership but they are not sure.

Thank you

Mark

I guess it's about time that I had an "official" hello post.

I've been lurking for a long time and posting for a bit. Basically I've tried to make the best use of yarisworld in order to gather all the information I needed before purchasing a yaris. Thank you to everyone who helps this site to be a treasure trove of info. It really does mean a lot and it does make a difference.

Well I don't have the car yet but I just got back from my local dealership after putting $500 down so that they could go ahead and grab the next polar white LB w/MT and no options that is available. I had them check every dealer that they could pull from and nobody had an 08 white LB that they could strip down so my car will most definitely be "fresh off the boat". I should have the car some time between next weekend and ... whenever. No biggie though; the longer it takes the more $$$ I can put down when it comes in.

Anyways I'm not officially an owner yet but I figure putting down $500 and waiting for one to come in is about as close to being an owner as you can get without being one so I thought I would post on the "Check in here" thread.

SIDE NOTE: Before anyone posts I'll just go ahead and say that "Yes I agree that black is a great color for the LB" but I also live in an area with a ton of pollen and I had to weigh "black and sexy" vs "white and tidy". White won out because I don't want to deal with keeping a black car the way it deserves to be kept. Polar white with black tint windows looks really good too so that's what I'll be going for just as soon as I hit Crutchfield up for some gear.

Hi, I'm new. [Official Hello]

Hey there.

The name's Darren, and I'm just introducing myself. My gf is quite close to buying a Yaris (NCP11?) for herself, and I'm using this website as a reference point.

We're both living in Perth, Western Australia at the moment. She's intending to buy a Yaris YRS, which is the 1.5L derivative without the YRX's cosmetic upgrades, and comes with 15" steelies. Most likely, it's going to be manual, 3door, and "Shadow" in colour (blue-grey).

Can I get some feedback on these items?

1. fly-by throttle linkage. first time using it, and it's annoying. how do you guys find it? I was tempted to do some heel-toeing but with the dealer agent in the car, I thought against it.

2. driving position - YAY for tilt and reach steering! BUT driving position is still a bit sucky. i prefer to be lower in the car, but alas, it's not to be (and I'm only 5"8/9, 174cm). It feels different being higher.

3. clutch - way too light. i couldn't find the friction point and subsequently stalled. The last time i stalled a normal car was my own, 9 yrs ago. And the last time i stalled a car was a R32 Skyline GTR with a twin plate.

4. gearbox - any issues with shifting? feels solid enough for a little car. The aussie 9th? gen (2nd latest) corolla sportivo (T-Sport in UK) with the 2zz, had a notchy feel, and a fair few people had to get toyota to fix something on there, of which I can't remember anymore.

5. no quick release for rear access on driver's side. A bit weird, I thought, as all other coupe's and 2drs had passenger and driver side quick release.

6. Rear Inner guard/fender, or lack thereof - Do you feel there's something missing here? I had a look at a few Yarises (h/b and sedan) and they are all missing. You can see the cover for the fuel tract from the filler to the tank. Is there an aftermarket product to address this issue? I found it slightly bemusing that there were pebbles and dirt accumulating in the crevices.

overall - car feels nippy in traffic, although coming from a 1.6L (I know, peanuts) there is no acceleration but it does feel planted when doing mid and low speed corners. Not bad on the switch-backs. Normal braking feels good, no idea about heavy braking.

***

Intended mods for the future:
- Sunroof (Hollandia 700)
- Tinting
- 17" and hopefully TRD springs (after running the new tyres into the ground).
- Should I also opt for the YRX rear wing? or a Sportivo rear wing? I see a fair few of you guys having just the rear spoiler on your cars, without the front lip and side skirts. Looks almost like a 1-make series race car.

Hope to contribute in some way in the future, but please excuse the no0b :)

Have a good day!

Ps. to the other aussies - is there not much activity on ozecho.com? YW is better for reference material naturally, but I thought the aussie yaris owners would still band together over there.

Why not... I did. I had the dealer principle, wife, + kids in the back and I gotta say the ride was.... interesting. Seeing the look on the dealers face was priceless. Shit...did I get a mouthfull from the wife afterwoods though !

You get used to it very quickly. Even though my Yaris is still some pre-fab metal in a plant in Tokyo, I find it very easy to get in and drive my friends Yaris after coming from my XR6

Yep.. My biggest complaint.. appart from the engine run on in 1st and 2nd gears.

Non that I've noticed.. Though I'll probably get the short shift kit pretty much first up.

Yeah... frikk'n weird that. Guess the up side is that once you've found a nice driving position, it wont go south as soon as someone wants to get in the back seat.

I agree. For what the car is and what segment/price it is aimed at, it is an absolute gem. Possibly only toppled by the new Mazda2, but the M2 will be at a premium for now.

EDIT: Typing and beer.. DO NOT MIX !
Darryl Summers and Dancing with the Stars will do that to you....

Hey Ferret! Never been to Bris Vegas before.. but I can guess its rather tropical.. I hear you've been getting some sorta rain for a short while recently.. maybe the banana prices can come down soon :P

Wot? Nothing wrong with the colour.. it's the best I reckon. White's for fleet mobiles, sky blue and green are not a go, and navy blue doesn't suit the car. Black is the 2nd best option, but Shadow makes the lines of the car more pronounced :)

I went through my evaluation route near the dealership and was going about 60% when the dealer told me off. I thought I tried to talk to him at the same time, but I guess he noticed.

The Yaris is very easy to get into. I'm still not used to the S15 although the Celica is much easier. It's just the height in relation to the ground when driving makes me feel like I'm driving an MPV of sorts. I think the guy on here with the Recaros has the right idea :)

Short shift kit also mostly means shorter actual stick. My gf is used to a higher placed gear knob and if i'm looking at a short shifter, it has to have the stick longer than OEM! A bit weird, but think of it as pre-paddle shift gear levers for rally cars :)

yea. Actually it's quite apparent when looking at the Yaris. But that's cost cutting for ya. If you're not sure what I mean, look at another car's inside rear fender, and you'll see a black plastic cover sitting above the tyres.

Haven't seen specs/test driven the M2 yet but it does look nice!
