Wasteful responses? Your talking about a bolt rusting. If you are worried about the head of a bolt rusting, you should have just brought a 100 percent plastic car. All bolts rust, and are meant to rust. Your suspension will not fail at 4,000 miles, or 300,000 miles because water was constantly dripping on a bolt. All cars have bolts like that. Thats like me telling Lexus they need to recall my ES300, because my license plate bolts rusted the first time they got wet. Bolts are going to get wet, and rust. All cars have this issue, not just the Yarris. I would almost pay to see you tell the service writer at Toyota that they need to recall the Yarris because a bolt is rusting, the look on his face would be priceless. Its obvious you don't have much knowledge on cars, otherwise you wouldn't be worrying about this. So just trust me, and don't worry about it. Its nothing big, and it sure as hell doesn't need a recall. I originally thought this was a joke, but I guess not.

Its perfectly fine. All cars have to drip the condensation off their AC somewhere.

no one is saying that it needs to be recalled, at least i didn't see that. we are just saying that it is dripping right onto a bold, constantly, and that you can do soemthing about it yourself. its not once in a while, ALL THE TIME THAT A/C IS ON. which, in the summer, is almost always. if you don't like what we are talking about, you can always read something else. no one is forcing the conversation down your throat.

You can argue all you want about the chemical realities of the oxidization of metal (AKA rust) however the guy was trying to let people know to look out for a possible problem. How many times in history has there been people with your mindset that said "oh well ______ happens and you can't control it seeing as how it is a fact of nature." and due to that lack of attention to "possible however unlikely" instances all forms of issues and tragedies have arisen. Maybe it is just my military backround that screams to pay attention to all options, or maybe I am just being over cautious by your standards....either way why don't you either pony up and get a Yaris to be able to make true remarks or get in your Eclipse and roll on out.

Either way do something fruitful for someone.

i just noticed this on my sedan as well. the bolt itself is not rusting (must be galvanized), but the washer under the bolt is. stupid design. hope there's no problems down the road.

I think by now fnkngrv's car wouldn't be running if this was something to be concerned about. The general consensus of the thread was that this was not a big deal...so why bring it up again? If people who saw this 4 years ago are still going strong, it's obviously nothing to be concerned with.

bolts rust and that is why service centers have torches

and for those who want an automobile to remain pristine, the options
are 1) do not drive it 2) keep it garaged and 3) zeibart, kroil, cosmolene




PS: that bolt you are talking about will need over 30 years of rusting with clean
condensed water before it becomes an issue. at that age, there will be different concerns not related to the bolt

but when something is so utterly laughable, we want to point it out, so that you can reflect, and maybe think..."gee, what is it I need to learn from this, so people won't laugh at me anymore ?"

To the guy who said A/C doesn't blow cold: search for the DIY project to wrap insulating foam from Home Depot ($3 for a 6 ft tube) around the low pressure return line that runs around the alternator, left side of engine compartment ... it makes it extremely cold, and rapidly so even in 100F summer heat.

And the initial issue didn't matter. I haven't looked at it, and my car is 4 years old and it is still fine.

Hi all! I was checking out the forums before I made my purchase of a Yaris and after the test drive of an 08' sedan I opened the hood and was poking around. Remembering this thread I looked and sure enough the water was dripping right on the bolt! I purchased the car yesterday and one of the first mods I plan on doing is extending/re-directing the hose away from the bolt. Should be really easy. When I do it I'll take pics or vids and post them.

Good info here, thanks for everyone's help in the decision making process!
