My wife gave up her BMW Z3 for a grandkid. Got a Honda CR-V. Not a mini van but it works for her.

I would keep my Yaris but tell the daughters you cannot babysit all 3 grandkids on days when you have an appointment somewhere. Tell them they would have to make other arrangements or maybe pay a sitter....what will they do if (God forbid) something happens to you?

(BTW, I live in Indy too, but I don't babysit! )

My brother's family is like this, we call them BLOODSUCKERS. They take advantage of my parents all the time, especially when it comes to asking for $$$!
Set boundries. Sometimes you gotta say no if you just are'nt able to do something. It should'nt cost YOU $ to provide them for free babysitting services. Heck, they should be considering helping pay for a larger vehicle for you to tow their kids around in for them....
I just hate it when others take advantage in the name of "family".

Does it have to be new? Maybe you can buy a used minivan or SUV that you can fit the baby seats in. Don't sell it if you don't want to, but you gotta do what's best for you AND your family...

Let's see what numbers say.

If you buy a full size sedan with not so high mileage, it will probably cost you around $15K (I won't even talk about a brand new one since you said you were broke)

Let's say you sell your Yaris for $9000. That's $6,000 difference.

You mentioned that you may have to drive up to 4 times a month if you are "unlucky". So, if you rent a car for $25 a day (I searched Budget rent a car), that means that you can rent a car for 240 days to break even. Considering that you will average 3 rentals a month, it would take you 6.6 years to break-even with the purchase price.

Basically, if you like your car so much then don't sell it. First three years are the worst times for depreciation anyways. You would make a big financial mistake. Also, do you have to drive your grandchildren all the time? How come your kids won't drop them off to your house from time to time?

1. Put the rear seat backs down so they lay flat.
2. Get yourself some heavy duty velcro.
3. Strap children in a prone position to seatback carpet using velcro in an X pattern across their chest.
4. Continue to enjoy owning and driving the Yaris.

we can fit 3 carseats in our xb 2010, 2 rear facing on outside 1 front facing on inside. def a tight squeeze, but it's all in how ya do it. We already own the xb though, so if I had to go into ubying another car for the purpose of transporting 3 kids (which will eventually mean the 3 kids + the 2 adults + any other tag along passengers) so maybe the minivan is the smartest decission
