My 2017 Buick Encore has an Opel platform (Opel, Rüsselsheim, Germany) and the car is assembled in Korea... where it gets an Opel, Vauxhall, or Buick badge. My 2018 GMC Terrain also has an Opel platform and the car is assembled in Mexico. In both cases, most consumers believe they are buying truly "American" cars. Many would be very disappointed to discover they aren't. I'm not; in fact, it's the very reason the cars are actually reliable. I'm extremely happy with both.
However, when I buy a Toyota, I want to be confident I'm getting genuine Toyota quality and Toyota's legendary long term reliability. If I wanted a Subaru, Mazda, or BMW... I'd go to the respective dealers. |

I bought a Chevy Sonic for my Wife a few years ago. Same platform as your Encore, and Chevy Trax. In fact, that platform was developed with Fiat and is also the basis of a number of Fiat models as well, including some N. American Chrysler/Jeep vehicles. It is a very capable platform |

^^^ The 1985-88 Chevy Nova was a rebadged Toyota Sprinter that shared Corolla's AE82 platform, 1.6L engine, and 5-speed manual or 3-speed or 4-speed automatic transmission.

My 2017 Buick Encore (Opel/Vauxhall Mokka) is probably my favourite car so far. Build quality, materials, fit, finish, and paint are outstanding. It performs extremely well, is tomb quiet, and is by far the most comfortable car I've ever driven. It's a small hatchback, so is every bit as practical as the Yaris. I have a 2-year lease, so I'm not concerned about long term reliability, although it has excellent reliability ratings since it's introduction in 2013 and the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka gets great long-term reliability reviews in Europe. My lease is up in about 5 months, and I plan to get another Encore. |

Yes, sadly the trusty 1NZ-FE Yaris, or a Toyota-built Yaris next-gen TNGA successor, has been axed in the U.S. market. Toyota did recently announce, however, that they are reintroducing the Yaris hatchback to the U.S. in 2020 - but it will be a rebadged Mazda2 hatchback made in Mexico. Surprise, surprise, eh?
I think it is scheduled to debut at the 2019 New York Auto Show in April - with same homely iA fishface no doubt.
