U get older and realize life isn't a competition... Not on the STREET anyway...

Yeah, when you're young you have the answer/excuse for everything, and you have the world in your back pocket but can only afford to carry a little bit of money in the front; I was young once.

Even though I find this thread ridiculous and reading it keeps sickening me, I'll contribute one time.
- Right now there is a Blitz Supercharger for sale in Edmonton. - Eventually you WILL find some fogs. So for an investment of ~$2,000 you will have the power you desire, the fogs you so passionately find important, and still retain your dad's dream car. /OUT

I can’t cite the source but I like this quote. Good judgment comes from experience and experience comes from bad judgment.
I wish that I had listened to the experience of my elders when I was your age. Instead I went to the school of hard knocks. Doing great now as I live on the money I made in the past, not on todays or tomorrows money.

LOL..... Like the old saying goes "It's a shame that youth is wasted on the young".
![]() What most young people fail to understand is, the older people were young once also and they had the exact same attitued when they were young. The older people are just trying to give them the benefit of their 20-20 hind sight. Hey, when I was young, I thought I knew everything also. However, I had the benefit of wise parents who laid down the law and raised me with a sense of responsibility and sensibility that I have been very greatfull for all my life.

Honestly I think you should do whatever you wanna do. Get the mustang if that's really what you wanna do.
Or don't. Point is, don't listen to all these other knuckleheads. It seems silly to me that other people would care so much about decisions you plan or don't plan to make. Whether those decisions are wise or not shouldn't really matter all that much to anyone but you. It is your life after all. EDIT: But I am still curious as to how a Tacoma could be 40k.

If knuckleheaded opinions don't matter, why does he keep asking for the advice of others to help him decide? Guess he's on his own from now on?

^ this concept always amazes me. . . people post pics, opinions, and all sorts of garbage on a PUBLIC ONLINE FORUM, and expect the entire world to agree with them. . . or totally ignore things they didn't want to hear.

I think this little sign (found pinned to a tree in Australia) should be my last entry in this thread. Sums it all up for me...

Yeah that's pretty much how people work. Most of the time they are looking for reassurance, not necessarily advice. It's not that crazy of a concept. Also about the "knuckleheads" comment, I assumed by using such a benign word everyone would know that I'm mostly kidding. Everyone who's posted in here has had valid points. Most of which the OP should probably take under consideration. But at the same time if he doesn't like the yaris then he doesn't like the yaris. I feel that way myself some days.

The INTERNET is not a place of reassurance. To assume so is to assume incorrectly. It's no crazier than going to a police station for advice on how to kill a cop.

It was a response to frownonfun; relevant as a analogy to seeking only sympathetic advice and reassurance on the Internet. Let me spell it out for anyone who can't follow... If you go to a police station for advice on how to kill a cop, not only will you not get any, they'll probably beat you silly. If someone were seeking that information, they should try someone like their mommy who will cradle them and tell them they are special and that everything will be alright. This scenario applying to someone with those assumptions, should they have them. Because expecting the world to agree with you is pretty juvenile.

I wasn't trying to start an argument.
Just pointing out that when people ask for advice they generally aren't asking for genuine advice but instead reassurance so that they can go ahead and move forward with what they were going to do anyway but now feeling justified in doing so. Didn't really have anything to do with expectations about the internet or otherwise. At no point was I saying people should expect sympathy, or even empathy for that matter, on the internet. In fact I'd assume most of the time you'll get the opposite. But, most likely, you will find a few people in your corner and ignore the advice of all those who might disagree with you. That's just human nature. And that's all I was pointing out. It was just an observation mostly in response to some of the people on here getting all worked up over what Kevin does. And yes, I understand he asked but all you can do is throw in your 2 cents and move on. At the end of the day it's his call. And the rest of us really don't have all that much at stake no matter what he decides to do.

Makes perfect sense. I don't think ANYBODY IN THE WORLD cares what he does. But it's a forum, and it's fun for us to discuss and make comments, which is the whole point of this place. It's a enjoyable way to waste time. But yeah, the whole asking advice and looking for sympathy is pretty much expected. . . but it's usually more common with younger people. Some people, whom get older and wiser, learn to listen to opposing opinions and look for logic and reason. And sometimes when presented with a good argument, they will broaden their point of view and LEARN. It's one of the greatest things about life, growing up. There are finer and greater joys in life that, as a kid, you never knew existed. Back then, you cared about which grocery getter went 0-SLOW in the least slow time. Later on, if you still have a passion for speed, you save your money and put it into something WORTHWHILE.
You can spend decades trading in slow car after slow car, or you can save for 5-10 years and buy something TRULY remarkable. Most of the time, the people (that don't get money from their parents) who drove miserable beaters when young are the first to own their own home or a legitimately nice car, own being the operative word. Then there's the people perpetually trading in their top trim (OMG, it has a special edition R badge on the back) POS, owing half a decade up on their car in payments and upside on the loan.

I guess I can understand both sides of the argument here (the "Why doesn't he follow the advice he was given when he asked" and the "Do what YOU want to do because ultimately you are only trying to please yourself.") It's a tough choice, especially if you don't hear what you were hoping for, or if the advice is to do nothing. I will commend you for losing it and falling back on insults. Too many people do that, and it really doesn't solve anything much. So, enjoy the pic (which is why I took the photo in the first place) and have fun with trying to figure out the car thing. |
